SUTRO

“Can We Give That ONE Statement?” …That’s the question SUTRO shoe designers Mehran & Nooshin Esmaili ask themselves daily.

Founders and owners of Shoe Biz SFthis husband & wife duo have spent 33 years cultivating a business model that works exquisitely; boasting beautiful shops wonderfully decorated, courteous and efficient staff, and most importantly: superior shoe styles!

Having experienced their own growth and learning in the years that came before such rampant success, Mehran & Nooshin have seen an outpouring of support from their local and trend savvy San Francisco community. When they began their efforts towards creating an in-house label for expertly crafted shoes, their only prerequisite was that each design evoke California heritage specific to the identity of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Drawing inspiration from their regional environment, as well as maintaining core SF values, Shoe Biz SUTRO shoes are made in Mexico, yet with an eco-conscious frame of mind while taking pride in treating their factory employees with dignity and respect. Providing quality of life work conditions makes for happy shoe construction! Each pair is lovingly made within 22 hours from beginning to end and by approximately 5 people sharing 1 sewing machine. Featuring a goodyear welt construction where each panel is hand-cut, formed to shape and then stitched to the sole of the shoe, thus creating a welt, or ribbon like seam, SUTRO shoes are a one-of-a-kind fashion statement while being extremely durable.

Nooshin oversees the operations from start to finish. Involved and very passionate about the design, creation and manifestation as each pair is brought to fruition, Nooshin is available for her workers to provide them with care and support during the laborious process. She has also created strong business bonds with those who are employed at the factory and her presence allows for the quality of each hand crafted SUTRO shoe to undergo optimal supervision during assembly. SUTRO shoes has made a commitment to being eco-conscious; therefore, they use recycled products with minimum filling, natural rubber, are lead and mercury free and use non-chemical dyes opting for vegetable treated tannins instead. In addition, each shoe is made using glove leather to which an assortment of processes allows for a variety of finishes, achieving a new look in texture: from smooth and sleek leather to grainy and rustic suede. Embellishments are added as a finishing touch; including zippers, eyelets, laces and stitches.

Fortunately, SUTRO has become an increasingly more desirable shoe for Bay Area folks since each pair has a unique SF charm coupled with versatility in the form of fashion expression. Meaning, these shoes are comfortable and easy to wear, while looking fantastic with a variety of different outfits! Additionally, as SUTRO shoes are influenced by the city of San Francisco, everything from the brand name, the seal & the shoe is bursting with that special SF poise, with each pair being dedicated to an SF landmark or street, such as: Golden Gate, Valencia, Market, Sutter, Dolores & Fell.

Take a look at the pictures below to see if you find some spectacular soles that speak to your specific style!!! With such thoughtful construction and attention to detail it is hard not to fall in LOVE with SUTRO. And if you happen to be from the SF Bay Area then you will appreciate the look of these shoe styles since they truly capture noteworthy, individual SF character… “that one statement.”

Christmas Came Early

I want to extend a warm and loving THANK YOU to the Owner of Shoe Biz San Francisco, Mehran Esmaili!! And a hearty Cheers to all his incredible staff!

Mehran recently peeped the blog and loved StonerChíc, especially the posts featuring SUTRO shoes. In 1979 as Engineering students at SFSU, and with $1000 in savings from washing dishes at night, Mehran and his wife Nooshin opened their first Shoe Biz in the legendary Haight District (1420 Haight Street). Since then it has evolved, adding two more locations– 877 Valencia and 3810 24th Street– and each store has its own flair while being uniquely fun, creative, trendy, and 100% personal! Additionally, they have an incredibly remarkable array of k.i.l.l.e.r. shoes that are, as aforementioned trendy, but exquisitely exclusive. I love when I can shop knowing that I’ll have a distinct piece that not many others (if at all) will have… Shoe Biz’ tastes run the gamut from sneakers to pumps, boots to sandals and all things in between… Always with a marvelous selection, you are bound to leave the store with your tootsies happily and beautifully adorned!

Anywhooooo, where I was going with the thank you, it’s juicy… As a by product of seeing the blog, Mehran has sent me some beautiful booties that will be a perfect and welcome addition to my ever expanding shoe collection! Let me tell you, I am eager with the anticipation of wearing these beauties. They are so gorgeous. Both boots are Shoe Biz’ signature private label, SUTRO. Inspired by our stunning city by the bay, San Francisco is the backdrop to where the dashing young Man or Woman can be seen wearing these fine, handcrafted, artisan style leather shoes. Each pair is hand cut and hand stitched to perfection and the shoes are elegant with some styles having a refined and rustic flair. I highly recomment peeping the website: ShoeBizSF.com or visiting any of their 3 San Francisco, CA locations.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of my fab new SUTRO’s, xxoo StonerChíc

Booties! And Summer/Fall Outfits to Match!

Fall is fast approaching! And with the end of long, warm Summer days come the beginning of crisp, cool transitional eves… Now for those of us familiar with Bay Area weather conditions we are keeping our fingers crossed that amidst all the changes in foliage, we are still blessed with a delicious, basking Indian Summer

Even so, these times can be hard to dress for. Starting the day with a cool morning, followed by a toasty afternoon and into a chilly, breezy (hell, windy!) evening/night-time, it’s no wonder why the bootie is becoming a popular and trending style choice. It is versatile and chic; sophisticated yet edgy. I love pairing my various bootie cuties with tucked-in or ankle length skinny jeans and a tank OR with a hi-low skirt and tee! I’m including some cute snap-shots of a few bootie options that would suit any girl on the go! They are fun shoes that can be dressed up or down… So get creative! Additionally I will include some outfit ideas for further motivation!

Cheers, xxoo, Stoner Chíc

FUN OUTFIT ENSAMBLES!

Here I paired those cute LF lace-up booties with an Alternative Apparel hi-low skirt in a creamy, heathered oatmeal. For some funk  I added a red and off white striped cut-out shirt with a lightweight Madewell denim vest. Easy, breezy, beautiful BOOTIE girl!

I thought it would be fun to keep adding flair to these gorgeous SUTRO booties by wearing them with Mother Denim zip-up ankle skinnies! The rich burgundy/wine color adds to the bold brown of these yummy, heeled and tassled booties. Why stop there!? Keep rocking the cutting edge by wearing a muscle graphic tank like this one by Remain, as well as a sexy cut-out sweater. (Both tank and jeans were bought at Hawthron Boutique in Oakland)

This last outfit consists of Joe’s Jeans in a flattering ankle cut; perfect to wear with any bootie because it’s the right amount of jean to really help show off those cute booties you are parading in! Since these Dolce Vita shoes have a fun embellishment, I went with a simple floral tank with a surprise back by Free People and for when the weather tapers down, a cozy John Galt sweater.
