Magical Island of Treasure & Music

This year I attended the Treasure Island Music Festival on Saturday October 19th. It was my very first time & it was *MAGICAL*

Good friends, good music, good times!

As it was my first time at this music festival, I really liked and appreciated the chill atmosphere! With spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay & Skyline, there is arguably no better setting to watch live music! An intimate feeling, although among a substantial crowd, this setting may seem unattractive to some but the perks are in watching live acts without any overlap. Besides, the energy of the crowd is magnetic and adds to the overall live music experience! Additionally, Treasure Island Music Festival provides an array of joyous and creative activities for the festival goer. One can shake their groove thang at the Silent Disco, make daisy chain hairpieces, watch as artists work on mural sized displays, get their face painted and plenty more!!

A highly recommended Music Festival, peep the pictures below to get an idea… some shots are taken by yours truly, others by noted photographers… Enjoy!

SUTRO

“Can We Give That ONE Statement?” …That’s the question SUTRO shoe designers Mehran & Nooshin Esmaili ask themselves daily.

Founders and owners of Shoe Biz SFthis husband & wife duo have spent 33 years cultivating a business model that works exquisitely; boasting beautiful shops wonderfully decorated, courteous and efficient staff, and most importantly: superior shoe styles!

Having experienced their own growth and learning in the years that came before such rampant success, Mehran & Nooshin have seen an outpouring of support from their local and trend savvy San Francisco community. When they began their efforts towards creating an in-house label for expertly crafted shoes, their only prerequisite was that each design evoke California heritage specific to the identity of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Drawing inspiration from their regional environment, as well as maintaining core SF values, Shoe Biz SUTRO shoes are made in Mexico, yet with an eco-conscious frame of mind while taking pride in treating their factory employees with dignity and respect. Providing quality of life work conditions makes for happy shoe construction! Each pair is lovingly made within 22 hours from beginning to end and by approximately 5 people sharing 1 sewing machine. Featuring a goodyear welt construction where each panel is hand-cut, formed to shape and then stitched to the sole of the shoe, thus creating a welt, or ribbon like seam, SUTRO shoes are a one-of-a-kind fashion statement while being extremely durable.

Nooshin oversees the operations from start to finish. Involved and very passionate about the design, creation and manifestation as each pair is brought to fruition, Nooshin is available for her workers to provide them with care and support during the laborious process. She has also created strong business bonds with those who are employed at the factory and her presence allows for the quality of each hand crafted SUTRO shoe to undergo optimal supervision during assembly. SUTRO shoes has made a commitment to being eco-conscious; therefore, they use recycled products with minimum filling, natural rubber, are lead and mercury free and use non-chemical dyes opting for vegetable treated tannins instead. In addition, each shoe is made using glove leather to which an assortment of processes allows for a variety of finishes, achieving a new look in texture: from smooth and sleek leather to grainy and rustic suede. Embellishments are added as a finishing touch; including zippers, eyelets, laces and stitches.

Fortunately, SUTRO has become an increasingly more desirable shoe for Bay Area folks since each pair has a unique SF charm coupled with versatility in the form of fashion expression. Meaning, these shoes are comfortable and easy to wear, while looking fantastic with a variety of different outfits! Additionally, as SUTRO shoes are influenced by the city of San Francisco, everything from the brand name, the seal & the shoe is bursting with that special SF poise, with each pair being dedicated to an SF landmark or street, such as: Golden Gate, Valencia, Market, Sutter, Dolores & Fell.

Take a look at the pictures below to see if you find some spectacular soles that speak to your specific style!!! With such thoughtful construction and attention to detail it is hard not to fall in LOVE with SUTRO. And if you happen to be from the SF Bay Area then you will appreciate the look of these shoe styles since they truly capture noteworthy, individual SF character… “that one statement.”

Artistically Inclined

Walking home yesterday I stumbled across  a charming little art gallery on Valencia Street, SF: Incline Gallery.

A unique setting of ramps and volume with plenty of natural light, the space that encapsulates this contemporary art gallery works towards cultivating local, community growth among visual and performative  artists.

Lovingly and delicately curated, I highly suggest popping into Incline Gallery. You are sure to find tranquility amidst busy urban living…

Star Power

Star*Light*Star*Bright!

Starry*Eyed!

*DIAMONDS* in the SKY!

Seeing*Stars!

For as long as I can remember, stars have always been a theme throughout my life… A symbol that has come up time and again, magical and luminous!

I truly believe we are all made of stars, and thus connected to the greater universe, waiting to shine, for our time so we can tap into our own brilliance, for the feeling of STAR POWER. Not some trite Hollywood celebrity bull… But the POWER that comes from harnessing our own conviction and confidence toward the direction of our dreams! For me, that’s what Star Power is ALL about. These celestial beauties comprise our universe, of which we are apart of, and thus they represent our deepest desires… Those dreams, hopes and aspirations that feel so far away, they are almost unattainable… Until one day, you can see with clarity, your eyes sparkle, and inside you KNOW you have exactly what you need within YOU to make the most of what you wish for YOUR LIFE.

Needing to tap into that energy myself these days, as I am facing changes and transitions that are challenging, but  just as they should be at this point in my life, I find myself holding onto the image of a glimmering, glittering STAR. I feel its warmth and radiant glow on my cheek, and from within… Instantly, I know I am good. Life is good. This constant reminder to love the life we lead and to be grateful for the gifts we have, that is another blessing of STAR POWER.

Recently, to hold as an amulet, I had my dear friend Amanda, Owner of VOCE KEEN, design a custom Star Necklace. This gorgeous sterling silver pendant (pictured below) is a treasure, one that helps me channel my inner clarity and brilliance, so I can shine from within! Extra magical and juicy ju-ju when worn with the VK Crescent Moon Pendant ;)

Additionally, I am including the stunning Star Card from The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck collection. I love this hand crafted, made with love Tarot Deck. The energy and magic from this deck is enchanting! Every card reading I have done has lead me to connections, encounters and revelations that have been uplifting and surprising… I am truly grateful for the work of Kim Krans, who has poured her heart & soul, devoting her artistry, wonder, beauty and charm to the art of illustration & Tarot.

Craftsman & Wolves

You can never have too many coffee shops. Especially when the treats inside are as yummy as ever! Craftsman & Wolves on Valencia in the Mission District is an elegant nod to baked goods with the most unique and sophisticated flair. Flavorful breakfast pastries, cakes, confections, confitures, desserts, lunch and other sweet or savory delights can be had at this cool, chic location. I enjoy a mug of their Formosa Oolong Tea with either their Hazelnut Cake or Cocoa Carrot Muffin (and for savory goodies, The Rebel Within is truly all the hype…) In hindsight, nothing you eat here would ever do you or your taste buds wrong… Everything is decadent and perfectly luscious!

Cheers! SC

Food Truck Heaven

Off The Grid is an innovative Food Truck phenomenon! An organization that hosts various Food Trucks and Food Carts at various venues across the Bay Area, Off The Grid  is unstoppable! My first experience with OTG was 2 years ago when it was just getting started… It began as a weekly trend, meeting at Fort Mason every Friday from 5pm to 10pm. A fun, festive, community oriented gathering, Off The Grid was the perfect first date, girls night out or relaxed family dinner! With so many delicious, delectable treats to choose from it could only grow… Fast forward, and now it is no surprise that the movement has flourished and is becoming a booming entity. Off The Grid has Food Truck frenzy all over the Bay Area, including markets at Fort Mason Center, UN Plaza, North Berkeley, South Berkeley, Hayward, Alameda, Presidio and Larkspur.

I recently met up with my foodie girlfriend Isabel for a yummy lunch at the OTG Larkspur at the Marin Country Mart. A fun, inexpensive dining experience, Food Trucks offer quality food for street food prices. Most trucks are organic and natural, made with fresh, local ingredients. Both Isabel and I went with a tasty pulled pork belly sandwich piled high with coleslaw and potato chips. Known as the Barbacoa Sandwich from Sanguchon SF, this Food Truck features flavorful Peruvian sandwiches. We were not disappointed in the slightest. In fact, we ate them with such gusto that we didn’t even steal a chance for a picture… Oh well, you’ll have to pick a time of day or night to check out Off The Grid and treat yourself to delectable foodie goodies ;)

Bon Appétit, xxoo SC
